Acting DG, FIIRO, Chima Igwe
Following a Publication in one of Nigerian newspapers dated 2nd January, 2020 regarding the Ph. D Degree saga in the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi, FIIRO, a faction of the agency’s union, has denied involvement in the call for suspension of the Acting DG of the institute.
In a statement, an unidentified source pleading anonymity said “The information in the script did not originate from the senior staff association of the union and was neither the opinion, resolution nor agreement of the union executives and the general Congress.”
According to the source, the publication is a mere reflection of the personal interest of the writer which goes to shows that some notable individuals have vested interest in the seat of FIIRO Chief Executive.
“They are using the media to tarnish the image of acting DG, Dr. Chima Igwe, who has demonstrated vast knowledge and capabilities in taking the institute to a higher level.” The source said.
Quoting some concerned members of the institute, the statement said investigations have shown that the incumbent chairman of the senior staff association, FIIRO Branch, Togunde Mumeen, is on his own in the report he gave to the newspaper.
“There is also an allegation of financial inducement of over N2million against the union chairman to enable him forward such mischievous report against the FIIRO boss, reputable individuals in the ministry and federal institutions assigned to look into this matter.”
“There is no indication that the senior staff association is in support of this obnoxious report and have therefore dissociated themselves from the publication and also from the planned action in two weeks time as said by the chairman.” The statement added.
The statement also described It as unfair and saddening for a union branch chairman saddled with the responsibility of defending the welfare of staff to be engaged in such act and endangering the working careers of his fellow executives and the entire union at large.
“The executive members of Senior Staff Association, FIIRO Branch herby use this platform to dissociate itself from the publication in the punch newspaper against FIIRO Boss and also appeal to the Minister of Science and Technology, ICPC and other notable government functionaries to ignore and disregard the report in the punch newspaper.” The statement read.
