Fighting Crime: Police Guns Down Armed Robbery Suspects, Arrest 8 In Akwa Ibom State.

In a concerted effort to stem the rising tide of crime in the country, the Akwa-Ibom State Police Command has recorded a number of victories against criminal elements in the state.

In a Statement, the State police command said following a distress call on November 25, 2020, a combined team of operatives coordinated by the Area Commander Ikot Ekpene, ACP Nasir Kankarofo, led to exchange of gun fire with suspected armed robbers at Obot Annang Junction in Essien Udim Local Government Area.

According to the statement, when the dust was settled, two of the hoodlums – one Pius Ubong and the other simply identified as Sunny- were shot dead while three others; Stephen Dominic, aged 20, Sunday Akpan, 22 years, and Friday Emmanuel Akpan, 32 years, all male and members of the same gang were arrested.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include;  two locally made pistols, two axes, 86 live cartridges, 5 expended cartridges, charms and the swum of N9,150.00 cash among others.

The police command noted that in a related development, on the same day, the divisional police officer of Essien Udim, CSP Samuel Isiek, led a combined team of Tactical Squads to raid criminal hide outs around Essien Udim which led to the arrest of five other hoodlums suspected to have robbed Obot Annang Market earlier in the week.

According to the statement, in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, three suspected cultists / Armed robbers- one Edikan Udo, Samuel Ekong and  Gabriel Effiong Eyo- were arrested in an operation led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Ahmadu Bello, for robbing and inflicting machete cuts on their victims. Two Laptop Computers, long machetes, big scissors and torch lights were recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Amiengheme Andrew, has restated the command’s determination to  fish out criminals in the state.

He said security has been beefed up in all parts of the state especially as the yuletide season approaches.
