Customs Management Celebrates Adeniyi’s Tenure Extension, WCO Reappointment

The management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has welcomed the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, following his return from Brussels, where he secured a renewed one-year mandate as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.

Adeniyi arrived at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, June 29, 2026, after attending the 147th and 148th sessions of the WCO Council. He was received by senior officers and personnel of the Service, who also congratulated him on the recent six-month extension of his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

During the reception, the Customs management presented the Comptroller-General with a souvenir in recognition of what they described as his exemplary leadership and contributions to the transformation of the Service.

Speaking after receiving the honour, Adeniyi expressed appreciation for the support and solidarity of the management team, describing the gesture as a reflection of the unity and shared commitment within the Nigeria Customs Service.

He disclosed that he had travelled to Brussels expecting to conclude his tenure as Chairperson of the WCO Council but was instead re-elected for another one-year term by member administrations.

“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” he said.

The renewed international mandate, coupled with the extension of his tenure as Comptroller-General of Customs, is expected to strengthen the Service’s ongoing reform agenda, deepen international partnerships, and enhance Nigeria’s trade facilitation efforts.
