The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with maritime journalists to promote accurate reporting and enhance security awareness within Nigeria’s port environment.
Agbaminoja made this known on Tuesday while receiving executive members of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.
She emphasised the critical role of the media in shaping public perception and fostering transparency in the maritime sector, noting that closer cooperation between the police and journalists would improve information sharing, accountability, and public understanding of security operations.

The police commissioner also reiterated the Command’s readiness to work with AMJON in combating misinformation, promoting factual reportage, and highlighting both achievements and challenges within the port system.
According to her, effective communication between security agencies and the media remains vital to addressing security concerns and sustaining progress in the maritime domain.
Earlier, the AMJON delegation, led by its President, Vera Osokpo, commended the Command for its sustained efforts in maintaining security and operational efficiency across western ports.
The group noted that improved security measures have boosted ease of doing business and reinforced stakeholders’ confidence in Nigeria’s maritime industry.

The Ports Authority Police (Western) Command assured stakeholders and the general public of its continued commitment to ensuring a safe and conducive environment for maritime operations.
