Seme Customs Generates ₦9.8bn, Seizes Contraband Worth Over ₦500m in Two Months

The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, has announced a major breakthrough in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations, recording nearly ₦9.8 billion in revenue and intercepting contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) exceeding ₦500 million within two months.

Speaking during his first official press briefing since assuming office on March 18, 2026, the Customs Area Controller, Abdullahi S. Kaila, highlighted the command’s operational achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to trade facilitation, border security and economic development.

Kaila said the command’s successes reflected intensified enforcement efforts and improved operational strategies aimed at curbing smuggling activities along the border corridor while boosting government revenue.

He also stressed the importance of sustaining collaboration with relevant stakeholders and security agencies to enhance border management and ensure compliance with extant trade regulations.

The Customs boss further assured that the command would continue to strengthen surveillance and intelligence-driven operations to tackle economic sabotage and facilitate legitimate trade within the region.
