NASENI Renewable Energy Industrial Park Project Gains Momentum in Nasarawa

Construction work on the Renewable Energy Industrial Park being developed by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) in Gora, Nasarawa State, is progressing steadily as efforts intensify to address Nigeria’s energy challenges.

The 40-hectare facility, designed as a multi-energy hub, is expected to boost local production of renewable energy components, including solar panels, mounting systems, wind equipment and biomass technologies.

The initiative is aimed at reducing capital flight and conserving foreign exchange by limiting reliance on imported energy solutions.

During an inspection visit to the project site on March 31, 2026, the Special Adviser to the Executive Vice Chairman on Renewable Energy and Project Manager, Engr. Suyud Abdullahi Muhammad, said the park would significantly cut Nigeria’s dependence on imported renewable energy equipment.

He disclosed that the facility would house a wind assembly plant, small hydropower equipment production units and solar panel manufacturing lines, noting that the project reflects a broader approach to renewable energy beyond solar.

Muhammad added that the initiative aligns with NASENI’s objective of tackling energy poverty in Nigeria, where over 80 million people lack access to electricity, while many connected to the national grid face inconsistent power supply.

He also highlighted the project’s industrialisation potential, stating that it is expected to create about 2,000 direct jobs and an estimated 50,000 indirect employment opportunities across its value chain upon completion.

According to him, the park will help localise the renewable energy value chain and position Nigeria as a producer and exporter of renewable technologies, initially targeting the West African market before expanding across the continent.

On sustainability, he noted that the project is being implemented in collaboration with private sector partners, academic institutions and other stakeholders, in line with NASENI’s “3Cs” framework of Creation, Collaboration and Commercialisation.

Construction activities are currently being handled by about 35 contracting firms working on various components of the project, including industrial production halls, a research and development centre, knowledge park, energy centre, workshops, residential facilities, healthcare and recreational centres, as well as supporting infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems and a solar farm.

The Gora Renewable Energy Industrial Park is a key component of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at strengthening local manufacturing capacity, improving energy security and positioning Nigeria as a renewable energy hub in Africa.
