President Tinubu Concludes UK Visit with Cultural Showcase at Tate Modern

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on recently wrapped up his state visit to the United Kingdom with a high-profile reception at Tate Modern, where Nigeria’s artistic heritage was spotlighted through the “Nigerian Modernism” exhibition.

The event, attended by prominent global figures including David Lammy, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Nigerian diaspora, marked the symbolic conclusion of the President’s engagements in the UK.

Speaking at the reception, Tinubu described the exhibition as a reflection of a transformative era in Nigeria’s cultural history, highlighting the role of mid-20th century artists in redefining national identity beyond colonial influences.

“It is a profound honour to witness the soul of Nigeria on display,” the President said, noting that the artworks demonstrate how Nigerian creatives blended global techniques with indigenous heritage.

The exhibition was made possible through a partnership between Access Holdings Plc and Coronation Group, both of which Tinubu commended for supporting cultural diplomacy and promoting the nation’s creative economy on the global stage.

He noted that showcasing Nigerian art in London fosters dialogue between cultures and reinforces Nigeria’s growing influence in global creative industries.

The President also linked the event to his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the importance of leveraging culture as both an economic driver and a diplomatic tool. He identified sectors such as art, music, film, and literature as key components of Nigeria’s soft power.

Addressing Nigerians in the diaspora, Tinubu encouraged them to embrace innovation and leadership, drawing inspiration from the pioneering spirit reflected in the exhibition.

The reception further highlighted the evolving relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with both countries strengthening ties in areas of culture, commerce, and creativity.

The event concluded with Tinubu reaffirming the universal value of art as a unifying force, stating that it transcends borders and fosters shared human understanding.

The Tate Modern reception marked the final engagement of the President’s visit, underscoring Nigeria’s cultural resurgence and its expanding role at the intersection of global art, commerce, and diplomacy.
