The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led enforcement and border security, with the Controller, Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’, Comptroller Gambo Aliyu, pledging to sustain efforts to curb smuggling and protect legitimate trade.
Aliyu made the commitment while receiving an award at the 2026 Maritime Training Summit and Awards organised by the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) in Lagos.
He described the recognition as a great honour and responsibility, saying it reflected not only his contributions but also the dedication and sacrifices of officers and men of FOU Zone ‘A’.
The Comptroller said the unit’s commitment to intelligence-led enforcement, border security and trade facilitation had been strengthened by the professionalism and cooperation of partner security and regulatory agencies.
He said FOU Zone ‘A’ remained committed to protecting Nigeria’s economic borders, curbing smuggling and creating a secure environment where legitimate trade could thrive.
Aliyu noted that the award underscored the importance of transparency, collaboration and result-oriented operations in achieving the objectives of the NCS.
He also commended AMJON for promoting informed discussions on maritime affairs and holding stakeholders accountable through responsible journalism.
According to him, the media plays an important role in highlighting institutional achievements while also challenging government agencies to improve their performance.
He pledged that FOU Zone ‘A’ would continue to strengthen its relationship with the media, deepen collaboration with relevant agencies and enhance operational excellence.
He added that the award would serve as renewed motivation for the unit to uphold the integrity of the NCS and continue serving the nation with distinction.
