The Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Area Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration with the Nigerian Navy to enhance maritime security and trade facilitation.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Speaking during the visit, Oshoba said the engagement aligns with the three policy thrusts of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi – Consolidation, Collaboration and Innovation.

He explained that upon assuming office, he resolved to consolidate on the gains already recorded by the Apapa Command and further strengthen its relationship with the Navy within the operational axis.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration, the CAC noted that modern border management demands seamless coordination among security and regulatory agencies.
While Customs is widely recognised for trade facilitation and revenue generation, he stressed that the Service also plays critical security roles that require close partnership with the military.
On innovation, Oshoba described it as adopting new approaches to achieve better outcomes, adding that reinforcing inter-agency cooperation forms part of that strategy.
He commended the Navy for safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters, noting that secure waterways are vital for vessel traffic and port operations.

He also sought continued naval support along the Apapa port corridor to ensure smooth cargo movement and sustain economic activities.
In his response, Rear Admiral Mustapha underscored the longstanding partnership between both agencies, describing port security as a function of effective inter-agency coordination. He stressed that sustainable development is impossible without adequate security.
The naval chief further praised the Customs Service under Adeniyi’s leadership for its efforts in curbing revenue leakages and exceeding national revenue targets.
According to him, improved revenue generation would translate into enhanced infrastructure and strengthened social safety nets for the country.

Mustapha assured the Apapa Command of sustained and seamless cooperation in securing the maritime domain and supporting national economic growth.
