NIMASA, TASAC Strengthen Regional Maritime Cooperation

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has taken a significant step towards enhancing regional maritime cooperation with the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Cooperation (TASAC).

A high-level bilateral meeting held recently between the two agencies, culminated in the endorsement of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing maritime surveillance, seafarer capacity development, and digital information systems.

The MoU, signed by NIMASA’s Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, and Tanzania’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation, Dr. Devotha Edward Mandanda, marks the beginning of a new phase in regional maritime collaboration.

Both parties expressed confidence that the partnership will enhance maritime governance, improve operational capacity, and support the development of strong and resilient maritime institutions.

The partnership aims to promote knowledge sharing initiatives, strengthen cabotage administration, and expand the use of digital information systems.

This collaboration is expected to contribute to sustainable growth across Africa, with both nations committed to working together to achieve these goals.

The meeting was attended by prominent officials, including NIMASA’s Governing Board Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar, Executive Directors, and Nigeria’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the IMO, William Bwala.

This high-level engagement underscores the importance of the partnership and the commitment of both nations to advancing regional maritime cooperation.
