The Nigerian Government has officially declared May 1st as a public holiday to celebrate Workers Day this year.
Nigeria’s Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration on Tuesday, according to a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako.
The Minister emphasized the importance of excellence, efficiency, and fairness in all aspects of labor, highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s dedication to promoting innovation, productivity, and industry in the workplace.
In line with this year’s theme of ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of all citizens.
He reassured that the government will continue to create a conducive work environment where every worker can thrive and contribute to national development.
Recognizing the valuable contribution of workers, the Minister called for proactive measures to address the challenges of climate change through collaborative efforts to implement sustainable practices and policies that promote well-being in the workplace.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of integrity, diligence, and compassion in building a nation.
The Minister encouraged Nigerians to support the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and wished all workers a happy celebration.
This year’s Workers’ Day is coming on the heels of rising inflation and biting fuel scarcity in many parts of the country.
