Why Jendo Oil is Better Than Your Go-To ‘vegetable’ Oil

By Ahmad Sani

Chefs, family cooks and everyone who loves making foods know that oil is the ingredient with which food gets its mettle.

In Nigeria, both home and professional cooks have used what we call “vegetable” oil for decades, without paying attention to how healthy that ingredient is?

That it has been part of the cooking process for so long, does not mean it has been so good as nutritionists have come out to question the benefits of your popular vegetable oil brands.

As a result, as a company that loves healthy communities, we decided to look closer, research deeper and came out with Jendo – an oil made from groundnuts or peanuts as it’s known in most of the world.

Jendo Oil is the result of years of research and painstaking scientific process that has birthed the healthiest cooking oil in Nigeria. As a brand we are committed to prioritizing the health of our people above mere lucre.

To drive home the advantage of using Jendo Oil, here’s a comparison of groundnut oil with a few seed oils:

Groundnut Oil (Peanut Oil)

(I). High in monounsaturated fats: The oil is rich in monounsaturated fats, which can help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease.

(ii). Good source of antioxidants: Groundnut oil contains antioxidants like vitamin E, which can help protect against cell damage and reduce inflammation.

(iii). Mild flavor: Groundnut oil has a mild, nutty flavor that complements many dishes.

How it compares with other seed oils

1. Sunflower Oil-

(I) Higher in polyunsaturated fats: Sunflower oil is higher in polyunsaturated fats, which can become rancid when heated.

(ii). Lower in antioxidants: Sunflower oil contains fewer antioxidants than groundnut oil.

2. Soybean Oil-

(I). Higher in omega-6 fatty acids: Soybean oil is high in omega-6 fatty acids, which, when consumed in excess as we usually do in Nigeria, can promote inflammation.

(ii). May contain GMOs: Some soybean oil may be derived from genetically modified soybeans.

3. Canola Oil-

(I). Higher in omega-3 fatty acids: Canola oil is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, but it may not be as stable when heated.

(ii). May contain GMOs: Like soybean oil, some canola oil may be derived from genetically modified canola.

4. Safflower Oil-

(I). Higher in polyunsaturated fats: Safflower oil is high in polyunsaturated fats, which can become rancid when heated.

(ii). Lower in antioxidants: Safflower oil contains fewer antioxidants than groundnut oil.

Our Jendo Oil made from groundnuts is a healthier option compared to other seed oils due to its high monounsaturated fat content, mild flavor, and good antioxidant profile.

As an indigenous firm with the health of our people at heart, we took precaution by sourcing high-quality groundnuts which passed through rigorous hygienic and processing in order for the people to reap the full nutritional benefits.

Jendo is not just a cooking oil, it’s the powerhouse of nutrient-rich food products for the whole family.
