UBEC Empowers 137 Education Secretaries with Professional Development Training

In a bid to strengthen the foundation of Nigeria’s educational system, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has trained 137 Education Secretaries from Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities in the South-west region.

The training, which took place in Ibadan from November 18-22, 2024, focused on the 2023/2024 Teacher Professional Development (TPD) programme.

According to Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, the role of Education Secretaries in basic education implementation is crucial and cannot be taken for granted.

He emphasized that they are the administrative and professional heads of Local Government Education Authorities, responsible for ensuring that primary schools under their jurisdiction are run efficiently.

Bobboyi assured the Education Secretaries of the commission’s continued support in improving their knowledge and skills in educational management.

He noted that regular training would ensure that basic education delivery performs above average in terms of learner performance.

The Executive Chairman of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, also emphasized the importance of the training.

He stated that Education Secretaries are the closest to the schools and play a vital role in ensuring the effective implementation of the UBE programme.

The training is part of UBEC’s efforts to enhance the capacities of Education Secretaries as education managers at the grassroots level.
