TeamApt CEO Emphasizes Need for Collaboration in Digital Payments Ecosystem

By Barnabas Esiet.

The Managing Director of TeamApt Ltd, Dennis Ajalie, has stressed the importance of robust collaboration in the digital payments ecosystem.

Ajalie made this statement while participating as a panelist at the annual conference of the Committee of e-Business Industry Heads (CeBIH) in Lagos.

Ajalie noted that fintech companies and banks play complementary roles in deepening payment products and services for users.

He acknowledged that at times, these roles might have been misunderstood. However, he emphasized that the industry’s regulator, the Central Bank of Nigeria, has clearly delineated the roles of each entity in creating a successful payment ecosystem.

The panel discussion, which focused on “Digital Payments and the National Digital Economy Framework (NDEF),” also featured other industry experts.

Panelists include: Oluwole Oyeniran, Partner, Digital Engineering, Deloitte; Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman, Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON); Carmelle Cadet, Chief Executive Officer, Emtech; and Dr. Mohammed Jiya, Chief Operating Officer, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

Ajalie emphasized the need for industry-wide collaboration in fighting fraud, stating that if stakeholders can share information and collaborate seamlessly, it will become less attractive for individuals to use technology to commit nefarious activities.

The panel also stressed the importance of creating adaptable, inclusive, and easily accessible payment solutions that cater to the diverse and expanding Nigerian population. Such systems, they argued, would stimulate economic growth.

The conference, which was themed “Payment System Vision 2030: Navigating Contemporary Issues in Driving Future Growth,” was sponsored by Moniepoint Inc, a leading financial services company.

The event demonstrated the company’s commitment to creating a safe, transparent, and secure digital payments ecosystem for all Nigerians.
