Shaping the Future Workplace: EMP Industry Meet-Up Spotlights Generation Z’s Pivotal Role

The recent Employee Place (EMP) Industry Meet-Up held at the CIBN Bankers Hall in Lagos marked its fifth year, bringing together industry leaders to discuss the significant impact of Generation Z on the professional world.

Esteemed speakers including; Joseph Onaolapo (Jay On-air), Makuochukwu Okafor-Obi, and Sheriff Adekoya delved into important topics like consumerism, innovation, and the importance of trust in today’s workplaces.

A remarkable moment of the event was the presentation of a survey involving 1,000 professionals from various organizations, aimed at understanding how Gen Z is influencing workplace dynamics such as consumerism, innovation, sustainability, and leadership.

The survey provided valuable insights into how Gen Z is shaping and influencing the professional environment.

Nduneche Ezurike, former Group Head of Brand and Marketing Communication at Polaris Bank and the event organizer, emphasized the importance of understanding Generation Z as both employees and consumers.

The survey results revealed that many Gen Z professionals feel empowered to share innovative ideas, indicating a shift towards more inclusive workplace cultures.

However, traditional workplace norms still present challenges, with a significant number of respondents expressing resistance to change, especially in adapting to Gen Z’s sustainability values and digital consumer preferences.

The survey highlighted Gen Z’s role as catalysts for change, with a strong preference for digital consumption patterns and a call for workplaces to meet their expectations for sustainability and inclusivity.

Despite these obstacles, there is optimism about Gen Z’s leadership potential, particularly in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a majority of respondents recognizing their effectiveness in these areas.

Panel discussions further explored the topic, with speakers advocating for embracing Gen Z’s unique contributions to innovation and ethical business practices.

The lively participation from attendees added diverse perspectives to the conversations.

Ezurike expressed gratitude to CIBN for hosting the event, the panelists for their valuable insights, survey participants for their input, and the audience for their active engagement.
