President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to return seized food items to their owners in a bid to alleviate hunger in the country. The food items were intercepted as they were being smuggled out of the country.

The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, revealed the president’s directive during a visit to the Mai’adua and Kongolom border communities. He specified that the food items must be sold within Nigerian markets.

CGC Adeniyi also engaged in an interactive session with residents of the border communities to address their concerns, particularly regarding the challenges faced by business operators due to border closures.

He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence in enhancing security and economic development.

Adeniyi highlighted the role of community intelligence in enforcing regulations and commended the collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and the residents of Mai’adua.

He also praised the support of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State in advancing Customs operations in the region.

The Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Naziru Mua’azu Danmusa, expressed gratitude for the CGC’s visit and acknowledged the efforts of the Nigeria Customs Service in safeguarding lives and property.

Overall, the engagement underscored the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to fostering dialogue and collaboration with border communities for mutual prosperity and security.
