Oyo State Government to Commence Distribution of Appointment Letters to 5,600 New Teachers

The Oyo State Government has announced that it will begin distributing appointment letters to 5,600 newly recruited basic school teachers on Monday, January 6, 2025.

This exercise will take place at Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities (LGUBEAs) in all local government areas across the state.

The distribution centers are located in LGUBEA offices across the state’s 33 local government areas.

The centers include the Ido LGUBEA office at SDP office, Iyana, Akufo; the Ibadan South-West LGUBEA office opposite Magara Police Post, Iyaganku Quarters;

the Ibadan North-West LGUBEA office opposite NTC Factory Gate, Leaf Road, TESCOM ZONAL office; and the Saki-East LGUBEA office opposite Muslim Grammar School, Ago-Amodu.

The new teachers’ appointments take effect from January 1st, 2025. However, about 12 local governments are overbloated with teachers, while some are understaffed, prompting a redistribution to ensure equity and justice.

The Seyi Makinde government has paid N2.5 Billion as counterpart fund for the 2022 & 2023 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects.

Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, urged the new teachers to be innovative and embrace modern techniques in imparting knowledge.

He also restated the Board’s zero tolerance for examination malpractices. “As young teachers, you are expected to be creative, adaptive, talented, and progressive.

“We urge you to be innovative and be the teacher for this age and the game-changing teacher for the future,” Dr. Adeniran said.

The Chairman commended Governor Seyi Makinde for approving the appointment to fill vacant positions in the education industry.

He stated that the Governor’s intervention in the sub-sector has placed Oyo in the forefront among its peers.

The distribution of appointment letters is a significant step towards repositioning basic education in Oyo State.

With the new teachers on board, the state is poised to revolutionize the basic education sub-sector and provide quality education to its citizens.
