The Oyo State government has commended Planet 3R, an integrated waste recycling and manufacturing firm, for empowering 97 youths through a waste-to-wealth program.
This initiative, which includes a six-week training course on recycling, aims to promote sustainable waste management and environmental conservation.
97 youths completed the training program and showcased locally made recycled products, demonstrating innovative approaches to waste repurposing.
The Oyo State government, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), and Oyo State Youth Development Agency have expressed interest in partnering with Planet 3R to expand the initiative’s impact.
Planet 3R’s Managing Director, Adejoke Lasisi, emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future where economic development aligns with environmental stewardship.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Arc. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, reiterated the Oyo State government’s commitment to implementing policies that promote recycling, waste-to-wealth programs, and environmental education.
He assured Planet 3R of the government’s intention to collaborate in expanding the reach and impact of its programs.
The initiative has showcased recycled products made from various materials, including pure water nylons, textiles, denim, and PET bottles.
This demonstrates the potential of waste recycling in Oyo State and serves as a model for sustainable waste management practices.
