Over 60,000 Teachers to Gather at ‘Let There Be Teachers Conference’ in Lagos

By Barnabas A major milestone is set to be achieved in the education sector as over 60,000 teachers converge on the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos on September 20, 2025, for the ‘Let There Be Teachers Conference’.

The conference aims to amplify teachers’ voices, empower them for transformative change, and redefine the teaching profession.

The Director of Strategic Partnerships at 1 Million Teachers and Convener of the conference, Oluwaseyi Anifowose, emphasized the need to encourage teachers to boost their confidence and equip the younger generation with necessary skills.

He described the conference as a movement to restore the dignity of the teaching profession and reposition teachers as the cornerstone of quality education and national development.

The conference will feature keynote speeches from the Minister of Education and other national and international education leaders, panel sessions, awards ceremony, live exhibitions, and a digital resource fair.

A “call to action” communique for teacher-led education policy reform will also be issued. The event aims to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of teachers in one location.

The organizers are calling on all stakeholders, including government, private sector, NGOs, and the international community, to support this historic effort.

The conference is expected to challenge the status quo, disambiguate societal perception, and raise the bar for teachers in Nigeria.

The conference is designed to celebrate teachers, empower them, and equip them for the challenges ahead.

The Convener emphasized that teachers are the soul of the nation, silent architects of the world, and creators of possibilities.

He urged teachers to take pride in their profession and assured them that their efforts will be recognized and celebrated.

The Lagos State Government has officially approved the attendance of all public-school teachers in Lagos, while the organizers are engaging with various associations to mobilize educators from the private sector.

This development underscores the government’s commitment to supporting teachers and improving the education sector.

The conference aims to raise a new generation of teachers who can illuminate minds, inspire change, and transform generations.

The Convener emphasized that the future of the nation depends on the quality and commitment of teachers, and that fixing learning outcomes requires fixing the status of teachers.

The ‘Let There Be Teachers Conference’ promises to be a landmark event in the education sector, with over 60,000 teachers expected to attend.

The conference is a call to action for all stakeholders to support teachers and recognize their critical role in shaping the nation’s future. As the Convener aptly put it, “Let There Be Teachers!”
