Ogun State Commemorates 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day with Series of Events

The Ogun State Government has announced plans to commemorate the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day with a series of events, starting from Friday, January 10, 2025. The events are aimed at honoring the sacrifices of fallen heroes and their families.

The commemoration will kick off with a special Jumat Service at the Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta, at 12 noon on Friday.

This will be followed by a commemorative Church service on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, by 10:00 am.

The grand finale of the events will take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, featuring a special parade by members of the Armed Forces and the laying of wreaths in memory of the fallen heroes at the Arcade ground, Oke-Mosan, by 10:00 am.

According to the Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, all invited guests are expected to be seated 30 minutes before the commencement of each event.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is celebrated annually on January 15 to honor the sacrifices of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel who have died in the line of duty. The day is also used to raise funds for the welfare of veterans and their families.

In a related development, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence has inaugurated the National Planning Committee for the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations.

The committee is tasked with developing initiatives to honor the sacrifices of fallen heroes and inspire future generations.

Similarly, the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has unveiled the Emblem Appeal Fund for the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.

The governor described the emblem as a symbol of gratitude and a pledge to support those who have served the nation.

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has also launched the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem, urging Nigerians to prioritize support for families of fallen soldiers and those incapacitated during wars.

These events and initiatives demonstrate the commitment of state governments and the federal government to honoring the sacrifices of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel and supporting their families.
