NPA Boss, Dantsoho to Lead Discussion on Port Infrastructure Development at AMJON 2024 Annual Lecture

Nigerian Ports Authority Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, is set to deliver a keynote address at the 7th edition of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) annual conference.

The event, scheduled to hold on Thursday at the Rockview Hotel Apapa, Lagos, will focus on the theme “Nigeria’s Maritime/Blue Economy Industry under the Renewed Hope Agenda: What is New.”

Dantsoho’s lecture will x-ray the state of Nigeria’s port infrastructure, coming on the heels of his tours of the Western and Eastern Ports.

The NPA boss had earlier announced an ambitious plan to increase container traffic from the current two million containers per year to over seven million, as part of a broader modernisation effort.

The conference aims to dig deep into the untapped Nigerian Blue Economy, estimated to be worth around $1.9 trillion.

Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, will be the special guest of honour, while the Secretary General of the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA) will chair the event.

The event will also feature the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Barr Pius Akutah, Managing Director of Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), and other maritime CEOs as guests and participants.

The Patron of AMJON, Chief Tony Nwabunike, will be joined by other stakeholders in the maritime sector to chart a new course for AMJON.

According to the outgoing president of AMJON, Paul Ogbuokiri, the event will bring together influential voices for collaborative dialogue and development of the maritime industry.

Ogbuokiri revealed that the conference will educate participants and stakeholders on the activities of government and its agencies in actualising the potentials of the Blue Economy sector.

The 2024 AMJON annual lecture will be unique, featuring the installation of patrons, presentation of awards to deserving Nigerians, and the inauguration of the newly elected executives, led by Kelvin Kagbare.

The event promises to be a pivotal moment in shaping the future of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
