The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, has debunked reports that its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, has been sacked by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Some media outlets including online sources, reported the sack of the NNPC boss on Saturday following the suspension of CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Critics of Kyari have been vocal, pointing to certain controversies that arose during his tenure.
One of the major issues has been the alleged mismanagement of petroleum subsidies, which led to public outcry and financial strain on the Nigerian economy.
In a statement, however, Garba Deen Muhammad, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL said the reported dismissal of Kyiari is untrue.
According to him, “It is the handiwork of mischief markers.”
