The 2025 edition of the agrofood & plastprintpack Nigeria exhibition and conference kicked off at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, with dignitaries and diplomats from Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, and other countries in attendance.
The event highlighted the urgent need to address food insecurity and rising poverty levels in Nigeria, where over 30 million people currently face food insecurity.
Nigeria produces approximately 65 million tons of food each year, but 40% of this is lost due to inadequate cold storage infrastructure, resulting in an economic impact of around N3.5 trillion (approximately $8 billion).
This significant loss presents a substantial market opportunity for companies and governments looking to invest in Nigeria’s food system.
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, is encouraging foreign investors and key stakeholders to invest in the cold chain sector.
Senator Abubakar Kyari, Honourable Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, emphasized the need for a multifaceted approach to achieve food security, including enhancing agricultural productivity, improving market access, and implementing policies that support equitable resource distribution.
Germany, in particular, has expressed its readiness to support Nigeria’s agrofood sector to boost food security.
The Consul-General of Germany in Nigeria, Weert Borner, noted that Nigeria is one of six Sub-Saharan countries identified for intensified cooperation in agriculture.
The Netherlands has also made significant inroads in Nigeria’s agrofood sector and remains one of the country’s best trade partners.
The event featured exhibitions, conferences, and networking opportunities, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers to explore trends, technologies, and solutions shaping the future of Nigeria’s agrofood and plastprintpack sectors.
