Nigerian Universities Showcase Innovative Products Developed with NASENI Funding

Researchers from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) and Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna have unveiled groundbreaking research and development (R&D) products funded by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

The showcase, held at NASENI’s Technology Orientation Centre in Abuja, highlighted the culmination of a collaborative effort between the universities and NASENI.

The projects, which began in April 2023, aimed to address pressing issues in agriculture, wastewater treatment, and industrial purification.

Professor Abass Alade from LAUTECH developed a novel system for treating aquaculture wastewater using waste banana and plantain stem juice composite.

Associate Professor Jimoh Oladejo Tijani from FUT Minna created a multi-walled carbon nanotubes-iron tungstate composite for industrial wastewater purification.

Dr. Sanusi Kolawole from LAUTECH focused on developing nano-coating green urea fertilizer for agricultural production enhancement.

The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, commended the researchers for their innovative work and effective utilization of funds.

Professor Abass Alade expressed gratitude on behalf of his colleagues, highlighting the projects’ achievements, including agency-academia linkage, facility development, and human resource development.

The researchers called for further funding to mass-produce and commercialize their products through a tripartite relationship between NASENI, academia, and private sector operators.

NASENI Research Directors, Dr. Patrick Okwu and Engr. Prof. Abdulmalik Onuwe, emphasized the importance of expanding research deliverables to benefit the manufacturing sector and encouraged the inclusion of production costs in future presentations.

The showcase underscored NASENI’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration between Nigeria’s top academic institutions and the Agency’s research and development efforts.

The event highlighted the potential for groundbreaking research and development in Nigeria, with the support of organizations like NASENI.
