Nigerian Ports Authority Celebrates 2024 World Maritime Day in Lagos

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) recently joined the global maritime community to commemorate the 2024 World Maritime Day in Lagos.

The event, aimed at promoting the importance of the maritime industry, brought together stakeholders and experts in the sector.

Representing the Managing Director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the Authority’s commitment to safer, more efficient, and sustainable maritime operations.

He highlighted NPA’s efforts in upgrading port infrastructure, enhancing navigation, and promoting environmental sustainability.

The Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services, NPA, Ibrahim Abba Umar, also addressed the gathering, focusing on the theme “Maritime Education, Training, and Capacity Building.”

He stressed the need for skilled professionals to drive innovation and growth in the industry.

The event featured an essay writing competition, which saw talented students showcase their knowledge of maritime issues.

Winners were awarded prizes, encouraging the next generation of maritime professionals.

Dignitaries present included the Acting General Manager, Corporate & Strategic Communications (C&SC), Sarah Ballah, and other top officials from the maritime sector.

The World Maritime Day celebration underscores NPA’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s maritime industry, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
