The Nigerian maritime industry is set to witness a historic event as the Nigerian Maritime Journalists confer the “Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024” award on the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
The award dinner, scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State, by 6 pm, is a testament to Adeniyi’s outstanding performance since assuming office as Comptroller-General of Customs.
His achievements include unprecedented revenue collection, anti-smuggling activities, trade facilitation, national security, staff welfare, inter-agency collaboration, and infrastructural upgrade, among others.
The event, initially planned for January 16th, was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. However, the maritime journalists’ unanimous decision to honour Adeniyi remains unchanged.
The award is a collaborative effort by various maritime journalists’ associations, including the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), League of Maritime Editors (LOME), Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), and others.
According to the organisers, the award also recognises Adeniyi’s unwavering support to the media, particularly the maritime media.
This honour aims to set a precedent for other government agencies and appointees, demonstrating the maritime media’s vigilance and commitment to excellence.
The award ceremony is expected to attract prominent guests from sister agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, and other maritime stakeholders.
