Nigerian Government Endorses STICOMMS’25, Pledges Collaboration for Science, Technology Advancement

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (FMIST), has thrown its weight behind the first National Science, Technology, and Innovation Communication Conference (STICOMMS’25).

The conference, scheduled for October 21-23, 2025, at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Abuja, aims to advance the communication of science, technology, and innovation for national development.

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, expressed the Ministry’s interest and endorsement, describing STICOMMS’25 as a unique conference and first of its kind.

He assured the organizers of the Ministry’s collaboration to achieve the conference’s desired goals, highlighting that the event aligns with the Ministry’s efforts to promote research and innovation outputs from various research agencies.

Nnaji also pledged to deploy two senior staff members to join the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to ensure the Ministry’s full representation in the planning and participation process.

The AUST President, Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, who led the STICOMMS’25 LOC on a visit to the Minister, highlighted areas of collaboration, including.

– Official endorsement of the conference by the Honourable Minister

– Delivery of a keynote address at the opening session

– Nomination and sponsorship of Ministry staff to participate in the conference

– Showcasing selected innovations from research agencies under the Ministry

– Featuring the Ministry’s profiles and achievements in the official conference program

– Mobilization of research agencies under the Ministry to participate actively in the conference

The endorsement and collaboration between the Ministry and STICOMMS’25 organizers are expected to foster a fruitful partnership, advancing science, technology, and innovation communication in Nigeria.
