The ‘#EndBadGovernance’ protests in Nigeria have entered the fourth day, with thousands of demonstrators persisting in their demands for change across the country.
Despite President Bola Tinubu’s early morning address calling for a truce, protesters have remained resolute in their determination to bring attention to the nation’s pressing issues.
The protests, which began on Thursday, have seen demonstrators gather in cities nationwide, including in the north, middle belt and southern regions.
In some areas, protesters even observed their religious rites at the protest grounds, showcasing their commitment to the cause.
In his televised broadcast on Sunday, President Tinubu urged protesters to end their demonstrations and engage in dialogue with the government.
While he condemned the violent protests in some states, he failed to address the unjustified attacks on peaceful protesters by the police and other security agencies.
Amnesty International has reported that at least 13 people have lost their lives since the start of the protests, with many killed by security operatives. However, the police have disputed this report.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Okafor, has appealed to protesters in Lagos to return home and await government intervention, as promised by the president.
Despite these developments, protesters remain undeterred, driven by their desire for genuine change and accountability in governance.
As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether the government will heed the demands of the people or continue to resist the calls for reform.
