The 2025 Women’s African Club Volleyball Championship kicked off on April 3, 2025, at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria.
This historic event marks the first time Nigeria has hosted the African Women’s Volleyball Tournament, bringing together top clubs from across the continent.
First Lady Remi Tinubu, wife of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, officially declared the tournament open.
In her address, Remi welcomed participating teams and praised the organizers for promoting volleyball in Africa.
She emphasized the importance of discipline, respect, and sportsmanship among competitors, stating that the championship should serve as a platform for building friendships and inspiring future generations.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, highlighted the significance of the tournament in fostering bilateral relationships and showcasing Nigeria’s excellence in sports.
He emphasized the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to sports development, citing its impact on youth empowerment and national unity.
The tournament’s opening match featured the Nigeria Customs Service Volleyball Team against their Cameroonian counterparts.
The Customs team secured a straight-set victory, winning 25-18, 25-17, and 25-22. The competition will run until April 14, 2025, when a new champion will be crowned.
The 2025 Women’s African Club Volleyball Championship serves as a platform for African teams to showcase their skills and promotes unity, friendship, and fair play among competitors.
The tournament also highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in sports development and its commitment to promoting women’s participation in athletics.
