Nigeria Customs Service Launches ‘Customs Cares’ Initiative to Drive Sustainable Development

In a landmark event, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) launched its groundbreaking ‘Customs Cares’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, aimed at transforming communities nationwide.

The initiative was unveiled on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Government Secondary School, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, with over 1,300 students benefiting from the first phase.

Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi emphasized that “Customs Cares” is a strategic response to Nigeria’s critical social, educational, and infrastructural gaps.

The program aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Customs Cares initiative focuses on key areas including education, prioritizing human capital development as fundamental to national prosperity.

It also targets healthcare, deploying mobile clinics, conducting medical outreaches, and implementing anti-malaria campaigns.

Additionally, the program will initiate water borehole projects, upgrade electricity infrastructure, and facilitate skills acquisition programs to improve social infrastructure.

Environmental sustainability and youth empowerment through education and skills acquisition are also crucial components of the initiative.

The Ministers of Finance, Education, and Youth Development, alongside representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), commended the NCS for its commitment to national development beyond revenue generation.

The initiative has been hailed as a game-changer, exemplifying how government institutions can integrate social impact into their core mandate.
