Nigeria Customs Service Apologises for Shooting Incident in Jigawa State.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has appologised to the public over the tragic shooting incident that occurred in Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Friday May 26, 2023.

According to Newsshelve findings, unconfirmed reports say a personnel of the NCS allegedly fired a a gunshot at a motorist who refused to stop at a checkpoint on the fateful day.

Unknown to the shooter, however, the motorists is said to have been identified as  a Customs  officer colleague who was returning from Niger Republic.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Nura Sa’idu, the Service expressed regret over the incident while consoling the family and friends of the victim.

The NCS vowed it would thoroughly investigate the incident to determine cause and circumstances surrounding the shooting.

RE: SHOOTING INCIDENT BY CUSTOMS PERSONNEL AT GARKI, JIGAWA STATE

We regret the unfortunate incident that took place on Friday the 26th of May 2023 at Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragic event, and we extend our deepest empathy to the family and friends of the victim.

As a Service, we equally assure you that the Management will fully investigate the incident to determine the causes and circumstances.

Our top priority is the well-being and safety of the victim and the larger community at this difficult time.

We would like to remind everyone that the Service rests utmost importance on responsible firearm handling.

Accidental shootings are preventable tragedies, as all officers are consciously trained to secure and only use their firearms in appropriate and controlled environments.

We will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available.
