The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced its highest-ever revenue collection for the year 2024, surpassing its target by 20.2%. The Service collected a total of ₦6.105 trillion, representing a 90.4% increase from the ₦3.206 trillion collected in 2023.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, attributed the success to the Service’s commitment to modernizing its operations, enhancing trade facilitation, and strengthening enforcement activities.
The NCS also reported significant growth in trade value, with imports increasing by 117.4% to ₦60.29 trillion, and exports rising by 219.5% to ₦136.65 trillion.
In addition to its revenue collection and trade facilitation achievements, the NCS reported notable successes in its anti-smuggling and enforcement efforts, with 3,555 seizures valued at ₦35.29 billion.
The Service also highlighted its commitment to capacity development and strategic human resource management, with the promotion of 4,291 senior officers and 1,419 junior officers, as well as various capacity-building initiatives.
Adeniyi also discussed that the NCS has commenced the process of recruiting new officers to strengthen its workforce and has made significant progress in its infrastructure development agenda, including the phased relocation to its new Corporate Headquarters building.
