The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is strategizing to address the problem of illicit drug trafficking and abuse amongst youth in Lagos.

The Tincan Island Port Strategic Commander, Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju, made this known during a working visit to the Lagos State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende.

The visit aimed to explore areas of cooperation between the NDLEA and the ministry in promoting a drug-free society, particularly among the youth.

Commander Mitchell emphasized the importance of collaboration in preventing drug abuse and trafficking, especially among young people, who are the future leaders of the country.

He noted that the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign initiative is gathering momentum across the country and expressed the NDLEA’s commitment to working with the ministry to educate and sensitize the youth on the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.

Honourable Ogunlende commended the NDLEA for its efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse in the state and expressed the ministry’s willingness to partner with the NDLEA in promoting a drug-free society.

The two parties discussed possible areas of collaboration, including preparation for the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The visit is a significant step towards strengthening the partnership between the NDLEA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Lagos State, with the goal of creating a safer and healthier environment for young people to thrive.
