The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has commenced payment of the first tranche of liquidation dividends totaling ₦46.6 billion to depositors of the defunct Heritage Bank.
The payment, which began on April 25, 2025, is part of the Corporation’s efforts to ensure that depositors are fully reimbursed.
A statement signed by Hawwau Gambo, Acting Head, Communication & Public Affairs, said the liquidation dividends represent amounts paid to depositors whose account balances exceeded the NDIC’s maximum insured limit of ₦5.0 million as of the time of the bank’s closure.
The initial dividend payment was made at the rate of 9.2 kobo per Naira on a pro-rata basis.
The NDIC used the depositors’ Bank Verification Number (BVN) to locate alternate account numbers and automatically credited them with the insured amount.
According to the statement, the Corporation also leveraged existing records to facilitate the disbursement of the first tranche of liquidation dividends.
Depositors who did not receive the payment are advised to approach the nearest NDIC office or contact the Corporation on the provided telephone numbers.
Those without alternative bank accounts are also advised to visit the nearest NDIC office or download and submit a deposit verification form on the Corporation’s website.
The NDIC reassures the public that this payment represents only the first tranche of liquidation dividends and that further payments will follow as more assets are realized and outstanding debts are recovered.
The Corporation reiterated its commitment to asset recovery and ensuring all eligible depositors are reimbursed.
