The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has addressed a video circulating on social media that captures a tragic shooting incident involving some of its operatives.
In a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, Assistant Comptroller of Customs, the NCS clarified that the incident occurred on February 17, 2019, and not recently, as some online platforms have suggested.
The Service took immediate steps to address the situation, including setting up a disciplinary panel to investigate the matter. Appropriate sanctions were applied, including the dismissal of officers found culpable.
The NCS reiterated its commitment to professionalism and accountability, stating that it will not condone any misconduct from its personnel.
The Service urged citizens to avoid spreading misleading content and instead seek accurate information through official channels.
The NCS reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and respect for the rule of law, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
The Service has implemented strategic measures to strengthen internal controls and capacity building through targeted training programs for personnel.
