National Wire has taken a significant step towards cultivating the next generation of financial journalists with the launch of the Campus Business Journalism Awards.
The inaugural ceremony, held recently, celebrated emerging talents in business reporting from Nigerian universities, with students from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) and University of Ibadan (UI) leading the winners’ list.
The awards recognized excellence in two competitive categories, inspiring campus journalists to delve into business reporting.
Olamide Ayoade from OOU took the top spot in the Best Business Feature category, while Indy Press Organisation of the University of Ibadan was named Best Campus Journal of the Year 2024.
Industry experts, including Lekan Otufodunrin, Executive Director of Media Career Development Network (MCDN), and Friday Ekeoba, General Editor of National Wire, commended the initiative for encouraging niche specialization among young journalists.
The event marked a significant milestone in grooming future business reporters from Nigerian campuses.

The Campus Business Journalism Awards is sponsored by Manifold Media and Tayo Olanipekun, with a panel of judges drawn from different cohorts of the Bloomberg Media Initiative for Africa (BMIA) for their depth in financial reporting.
