NASENI’s Tractor Project Kicks Off with Launch of National Asset Restoration Programme by Vice President Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima will formally launch the National Asset Restoration programme in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, Director of Information at the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), disclosed this in a recent release.

According to the release, the programme will kick off with NASENI’s Tractor Recovery Project, aimed at boosting mechanized agriculture and enhancing food security.

Ayeoyenikan stated that the project, fully funded, supervised, and executed by NASENI, will involve the comprehensive restoration of multiple tractors in Borno and its environs for immediate deployment to strengthen mechanized farming.

He noted that Nigeria has about 55,000 broken-down tractors, while only 7,000-10,000 tractors are functional.

The Tractor Recovery Project is part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda to revive broken-down or non-functional tractors and contribute to the country’s recovery and development agenda, Ayeoyenikan explained.

Each tractor will undergo comprehensive rehabilitation, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural upgrades, making them ready for immediate deployment across farming communities.

Ayeoyenikan added that the launch event will take place at the Borno State Agricultural Mechanization (BOSAMAN) Farm Centre, Maiduguri, featuring Vice President Shettima as the Eminent Guest of Honour, along with the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, and the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu.

According to Ayeoyenikan, this initiative represents a concrete step in rebuilding livelihoods, strengthening food systems, and revitalizing rural economies through home-grown engineering solutions.
