NASENI Unveils New Policy to Boost Commercialization of Local Innovations

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has introduced a new policy aimed at promoting the commercialization of its locally developed innovations.

The policy, approved by the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Khalil Halilu, directs all NASENI Development Institutes to prioritize the patronage of their own technologies and products.

The new policy is built on the principle that “charity begins at home.” By encouraging NASENI institutes to use and promote their own innovations, the agency aims to build internal confidence, enhance collaboration, and ultimately drive commercialization.

The policy requires the 11 NASENI Development Institutes, along with emerging ones, to patronize each other’s technologies, machines, equipment, and innovations before releasing them to external markets.

This approach is expected to foster a collaborative culture among institutes, support the commercialization strategy of the agency, and enhance the adoption and success of NASENI innovations in external markets.

Key components of the policy include mandatory product integration, internal pilots and testing, inter-institute product showcases, promotion of cross-institute training, internal endorsement and support for partnerships, and reporting and evaluation.

By implementing this policy, NASENI expects to achieve several outcomes, including:

– Stronger internal confidence in NASENI’s products, making them more attractive for external markets.

– Enhanced collaboration among institutes, fostering a culture of support and cooperation.

– A reliable model for external adoption, based on successful internal integration, and

– Improved product development, with feedback from internal usage ensuring that products meet high standards before market introduction.

The policy is a significant step towards achieving NASENI’s goal of commercializing its innovations and promoting local content in Nigeria.

By prioritizing the patronage of its own technologies and products, NASENI is demonstrating its commitment to self-sufficiency and economic growth.

As stated by the Director of Information, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, the policy is a critical step towards increasing the adoption and success of NASENI innovations in external markets.

With this new approach, NASENI is poised to make a significant impact on Nigeria’s economic development and industrial growth.
