NASENI-PICTT Launches DELTA-2 Second Call for Proposals to Boost Economy

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer (PICTT) have launched the second phase of the DELTA-2 Programme, a bilateral collaboration with the Czech Republic.

The 2nd Call for Proposals will focus on commercializing research and development outcomes in various fields, including mining, agriculture, advanced manufacturing, science, and engineering.

The Chairman of PICTT, Dr. Dahiru Mohammed, said the DELTA-2 Project is a major driver of innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development in Nigeria.

He emphasized that the program will accelerate Nigeria’s technological growth through international collaboration, create jobs, enhance productivity, and boost the country’s global competitiveness.

The first call for proposals under the DELTA-2 program attracted 285 submissions from Nigerian researchers and companies, with 25 projects funded in 2023.

These projects have resulted in innovative products and services across strategic sectors, creating jobs, building capacity, and advancing technology transfer.

The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, noted that DELTA-2 focuses on outcomes, bridging the gap between research and the marketplace.

He emphasized that the program is designed to deliver tangible, scalable, and commercially viable outcomes that respond to Nigeria’s real challenges and opportunities.

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, said the DELTA-2 Projects priority areas align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He emphasized that the program is not research for shelves but research for impact, with every funded project expected to deliver tangible outcomes that enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness and create jobs.

The Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, praised NASENI’s leadership for advancing Nigeria’s science, innovation, and technology agenda.

The Special Assistant to the President on Trade, Investment, and Industry, John Ugochukwu Uwajumogu, commended NASENI and PICTT for aligning their efforts with President Tinubu’s $1 trillion economy agenda, emphasizing the importance of technology transfer in achieving industrialization.
