The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is taking bold steps to upgrade its procurement operations.
From October 8 to 10, 2024, NASENI will host a 3-day in-house training at its headquarters, focusing on global best practices in procurement.
This initiative aims to build capacity among procurement officers and other relevant staff across various departments, including Accounts, Audit, Legal, Media, and Planning.
The training’s keynote address will be delivered by NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, while Olusegun Omotola, Acting Director General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Procurement, will officially declare the training open.
According to Dr. Mohammed A. Mohammed, Director of Procurement, the training is tailored to NASENI’s unique needs, considering that 75-80% of its activities involve science and engineering.
“Our method of procurement is slightly different from other sectors,” he explained. Mohammed emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building, citing the ever-changing technological landscape and global practices.
The training objectives include enhancing understanding of the 2007 Procurement Act and Manual, aligning procurement operations with global standards, and equipping officers with knowledge of new trends and best practices.
The training will cover key topics such as Effective Procurement Practices and the 2007 Procurement Act, Procurement Planning, Procurement Record Keeping Procedures, and Contract Agreement and Implications.
Adekoya Olatunji, a consultant from the Bureau of Public Procurement, praised NASENI’s initiative, stating that the training will enable officers to adhere strictly to the procurement act.
Notably, 95% of the resource persons for this training are from the Bureau of Public Procurement, reflecting NASENI’s commitment to collaboration and expertise.
By investing in its procurement officers, NASENI demonstrates its dedication to transparency, accountability, and excellence in its operations.
This training is a significant step towards achieving these goals and solidifying NASENI’s position as a leader in science and engineering infrastructure development.
NASENI’s efforts to enhance its procurement practices are expected to have a positive impact on the agency’s overall performance and effectiveness in achieving its mandate.
