The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has reaffirmed that research commercialisation is central to Nigeria’s economic development.
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, made this assertion at the North-Central Sensitisation Programme on the NASENI Research Commercialisation Grant Programme (NRCGP) held on September 24, 2025, in Abuja.
Halilu stressed the importance of addressing financial and administrative setbacks often faced by research projects.
He noted that the NRCGP was designed to support viable research and development initiatives in the country, propagating NASENI’s mission and vision.
The application process for the grant is fully digitalized, transparent, and does not require physical presence or long administrative procedures.
The NRCGP aims to empower prospective researchers from institutes and universities to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by NASENI.
Halilu urged participants to foster collaboration and innovation, emphasising that the sensitisation program was not just for personal benefit but also to provide guidance on the program.
The Programme Coordinator and Special Adviser to the EVC on Science and Engineering Commercialisation, Dr. Anas Balarabe Yazid, presented an overview of the NRCGP, highlighting its objectives, eligibility criteria, and key assessment tools.
He emphasized that the grant aligns with NASENI’s mandate to promote local content and that every research project must be noble, clear, market-viable, and align with NASENI’s transformation agenda and Nigeria’s broader development goals.
The NASENI EVC encouraged researchers to take advantage of the NRCGP to drive innovation and economic growth in Nigeria.
The agency’s initiatives, including the NRCGP, are designed to provide pathways for national progress and development.
The NASENI Research Commercialisation Grant Programme is a key initiative aimed at promoting research and development in Nigeria.
By providing support for viable research projects, the program aims to drive innovation and economic growth in the country.
