The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) is set to induct the Secretary General of the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA), Dr. Paul Adalikwu, as a Patron of the association.
This induction will take place during the AMJON Lecture, scheduled for Thursday at the Rockview Hotel Apapa, Lagos.
Dr. Adalikwu, a Nigerian national, was elected as the Secretary General of MOWCA in 2021, during the 16th Extraordinary Session of the General Assembly held in Accra, Ghana.
His exceptional leadership has repositioned MOWCA to play a pivotal role in developing the marine and blue economy of the West and Central Africa region.
The induction of Dr. Adalikwu as AMJON Patron is expected to project his numerous achievements at MOWCA, which has taken the 25-nation regional maritime powerhouse to greater heights.
The event will bring together influential voices for collaborative dialogue and development of the maritime industry.
The 2024 AMJON annual conference, themed “Nigeria’s Maritime/Blue Economy Industry under the Renewed Hope Agenda: What is New,” aims to explore the untapped Nigerian Blue Economy, estimated at $1.9 trillion.
The conference will spark fresh national conversations on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the creation of the Marine and Blue Economy ministry.
The event will feature Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, as the special guest of honor, while Dr. Adalikwu will chair the occasion. Patron of AMJON, Tony Iju Nwabunike, will induct the new Patron and present the keynote address.
Other notable guests and participants include the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Pius Akutah; Managing Director of Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji; and other Maritime CEOs.
According to the outgoing president of AMJON, Paul Ogbuokiri, the event will educate participants and stakeholders on the activities of government and its agencies in actualizing the potentials, prospects, and opportunities in the blue economy sector.
“Stakeholders and investors shall be educated on the available opportunities and the conducive environment provided by government for investments to grow and yield tangible returns on investments, ROI, in the sector” Ogbuokiri said.
The 2024 AMJON annual lecture will be unique, featuring the installation of patrons, matrons, presentation of awards to deserving Nigerians, and the inauguration of the newly elected executives, led by Kelvin Kagbare.
Already, top executives have indicated interest and attendance at the event, and paper presentations have been confirmed.
