By Newsshelve Correspondent.

Maritime Industry Stakeholders have commended the appointment of Igwe Kingsley Onyekachi as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

The appointment, which was made in accordance with Section 5 of Act 16 of 2007, is considered by the stakeholders as a welcome development.

According to sources, the minister’s decision was informed by the need to restore stability and professionalism to the council, which had been without a substantive Registrar and CEO since late 2022.

The appointment of Onyekachi, a practicing freight forwarder with the requisite academic qualification, maturity, and exposure, is seen as a victory for meritocracy and a testament to the minister’s commitment to professionalism.

Reacting to the appointment, the pioneer Chairman of CRFFN, Iju Tony Nwabunike, commended the minister for taking the bull by the horn and asserting his power to appoint a substantive Registrar and CEO.

Nwabunike, who oversaw the council’s growth from its embryonic stage to a full-fledged organization, described the appointment as a well-thought-out decision that would put an end to the suspense and retrogression that had plagued the council.

The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has also thrown its weight behind the minister, stating that the appointment of Onyekachi is a well-deserved recognition of his expertise and dedication to the industry.

In a statement, the association described the minister’s decision as a bold move that would restore stability and professionalism to the council.

The association urged all stakeholders to support Onyekachi as he takes the helm of the council, adding that his appointment is a victory for meritocracy and a testament to the minister’s commitment to professionalism.

The appointment of Onyekachi is seen as a new era for CRFFN, and stakeholders are optimistic that he will bring his expertise and experience to bear in restoring the council to its former glory.

They are also urging the minister to ensure that the council is given the necessary support and resources to enable it to discharge its mandate effectively.

The appointment of Onyekachi is a welcome development that is expected to bring stability and professionalism to the council.

As the maritime industry continues to play a critical role in the nation’s economy, the appointment of a substantive Registrar and CEO for CRFFN is a step in the right direction.
