Minister of Police Affairs Inaugurates Committee to Review Dismissal of Police Cadets

The Nigerian Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, has inaugurated an 11-man committee to review the dismissal and suspension of cadets by the Disciplinary Committee of the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.

The committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, comprises representatives from various stakeholders, including the Police Service Commission, Nigeria Police Force, and the Federal Civil Service Commission.

The Minister emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and review of the decisions, following passionate appeals from affected students and their parents/guardians.

According to Gaidam, the Disciplinary Committee of the Police Academy had unanimously recommended the suspension and discharge of some cadets found guilty of various infractions, including smoking Indian hemp, drinking alcohol, and damaging property.

Gaidam stressed that the objective of the committee is not only to address the specific cases but also to reinforce the standards of conduct that define the Police Academy and uphold its integrity and excellence.

He noted that the Nigeria Police Academy is a beacon of hope and a pillar of the nation’s security framework, and it is essential to produce well-disciplined, thoroughly trained, and professional police officers.

The Minister charged the committee to be mindful of the broader implications of their work, as the integrity of the Police Academy reflects on the entire policing system in Nigeria.

He emphasized the need to ensure that every cadet emerges not only as a law enforcement officer but also as a paragon of virtue and professionalism.

The Permanent Secretary/Chairman of the Committee, Yusuf Abubakar Argungu, stated that the Ministry received numerous appeals and requests for the review of the decisions, leading to the constitution of the committee to ensure fairness and justice.
