The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has successfully conducted elections into its executive positions, marking the beginning of a new era for the organization.
The election, held at the Eleganza Plaza Office, saw Kelvin Igho Kagbare emerge as President, with Vera Osokpo and Segun Oladipupo taking the positions of Vice President and Secretary-General, respectively.
Other elected officials include:
*Assistant Secretary: Ugochukwu Ezurike
*Financial Secretary: Raymond Tejundaye
*Treasurer: Barnabas Esiet
*Public Relations Officer: Uzor Odigbo
*Welfare Officer: Rhoda Ogunseye
*Provost: Gloria Nwafor
Representatives from the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) observed the election, describing it as hitch-free, fair, and credible.
Chairman of the Election Committee, Ismail Aniemu, praised the process, emphasizing the importance of performance in office.
Aniemu urged journalists to deepen their maritime industry coverage, moving beyond reporting on government agencies’ activities.
He stressed the need for investigative journalism to hold agencies accountable and promote economic growth.
The outgoing President of AMJON commended members for their unity and support during his six-year tenure.
He encouraged continued support for the incoming administration to achieve the organization’s objectives.
In his acceptance speech, Kagbare thanked members for their support and pledged an inclusive regime prioritizing members’ welfare, training, and collaboration with industry stakeholders.
The new AMJON leadership will be sworn in in November 2024.
This transition marks a significant milestone for AMJON, and the new executive committee is poised to take the organization to greater heights.
