Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has assured stakeholders in the Nigerian maritime sector of inclusivity in the development of the industry.
During an interactive session with maritime stakeholders in Lagos, Dr. Mobereola emphasized the importance of collaboration to achieve the vision set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
He highlighted the need for clear objectives, goals, and strategies to advance the industry and align with the government’s vision.
Dr. Mobereola also reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to expediting the automation of the ship registry to enhance efficiency and streamline processes, ultimately boosting shipping development in Nigeria.
Captain Iheanacho, former Nigerian Minister of Interior and chairman of the occasion, expressed delight at Dr. Mobereola’s appointment, praising his expertise and experience in the maritime industry.
He expressed optimism that under Dr. Mobereola’s leadership, Nigeria would make significant strides in promoting ship safety, maritime security, and environmental sustainability.
In his presentation, Dr. Akabogu, a maritime lawyer, proposed various reforms to drive progress in the industry, including policy verification, enhanced technology utilization, and accountability measures.
Vicky Haastrup, President of STOAN, emphasized the importance of training dockworkers, while Adewale Adeyanju, President General of MWUN, stressed the need for continuous training and decent work agenda for dockworkers.
Aminu Umar, representing the Ship Owners Association of Nigeria, called for further discussions on international advancements in the maritime industry and advocated for the independence of the Ship Registry.
Women’s associations in the industry also called for increased participation of women and support for advocacy efforts.
Past Directors General of NIMASA and former Board Chairman pledged their support for the current administration.
The event was attended by Rear Admiral Mustapha Hassan of the Western Naval Command and representatives from various maritime associations.
Overall, Dr. Mobereola’s commitment to inclusivity and collaboration with stakeholders bodes well for the development of the Nigerian maritime industry.
