Senegal, for the first time in history won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Camerounean soil after two hours of entertaining final match against 7-time champion Egypt at the Olembé stadium in Yaoundé.
The Teranga Lions came up stronger with a 4-2 win in the final penalty shoot-out as Mane, who was voted the best player of the tournament, scored the final goal, after missing a penalty in regulation time.
As Aliou Cissé’s men went into wild celebration, the Pharaohs of Egypt were inconsolable. Thier most prized player, Mo Salah and some of his team mates were spotted sobbing on the pitch.
This victory crowns an entire tournament for Senegal and the indigenous coach, Aliou Cissé, who has led the Teranga Lions to two previous AFCON finals, losing at both instances.Meanwhile, the Senegalese government has declared a public holiday to celebrate the victory which brings the very first African Cup of Nations title to the country.
