LCCI Urges President Tinubu’s Government to Bridge Policies and Programmes with Citizen’s Needs

By Newsshelve Correspondent.

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to ensure that citizens feel the positive impact of government policies and programs.

In a statement signed by Director General, Dr. Chinyere Almona, the LCCI expressed concern about the mixed reactions to the President’s nationwide address on the protest against bad governance, which began on August 1st.

While acknowledging the right to protest, the LCCI emphasized the need for urgent action to ensure that citizens benefit from government policies and programs without delay.

The statement highlighted critical variables such as the cost of doing business, cost of living (food security), and youth unemployment, which are linked to issues like poverty, inflation, hunger, and crime.

The LCCI advised the government to fast-track youth-oriented programs, including government-supported Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) skills acquisition, to empower youths to take up emerging opportunities.

The Chamber also reiterated the importance of implementing single-digit loans to large manufacturers and supporting small businesses with grants and low-interest loans.

Additionally, the LCCI suggested quick fixes, such as distributing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) kits to commercial vehicles, and urged the government to focus on implementing and coordinating highlighted programs.

The statement emphasized the need for clear timelines, a collaborative approach to policy planning, and regular stakeholder engagement with the business community, media, and grassroots mobilization structures.

The LCCI’s statement underscores the importance of ensuring that government policies and programs have a tangible impact on citizens’ lives, particularly in areas like business, employment, and education.

By urging the government to take swift action, the LCCI aims to promote economic growth, reduce poverty and inequality, and foster a more inclusive society.
