LASTMA Responds Swiftly to Gas Tanker Accident, Rescues Driver in Lagos

By Barnabas Esiet.

A potentially disastrous gas tanker accident was averted earlier today at Anthony Oke, along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, thanks to the swift response of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders.

The incident occurred when a loaded gas tanker overturned while heading towards Gbagada, prompting immediate action from LASTMA personnel, led by General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki.

The team quickly cordoned off the affected area to ensure the safety of road users and nearby residents.

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the tanker driver, who sustained hand injuries, was successfully rescued from the scene and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The Lagos State Fire Service, Lasema Response Unit (LRU), and other emergency responders were also mobilized to the site to implement safety measures and mitigate potential hazards.

Their quick and coordinated response has been instrumental in containing the situation and preventing further complications.

Bakare-Oki praised the efforts of his team and other responders, stating, “LASTMA personnel, with the support of LRU, have successfully evacuated the tanker and its loaded gas cylinder from the road, restoring vehicular movement towards Gbagada, Iyana-Oworo, Car Wash, Ifako, and Toll Gate.”

The LASMA boss emphasized that the safety of citizens remains the agency’s top priority and expressed gratitude for the cooperation of everyone involved.
