Lagos State and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have formed a strategic partnership to boost Nigeria’s digital economy.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the announcement recently during a visit from NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, to his office.
The partnership aligns with Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s commitment to education and technology, a key pillar of the government’s THEMES+ developmental agenda.
The governor promised to collaborate with the NCC to protect critical infrastructure and advance telecom and the digital economy.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted his administration’s achievements, stating that they have attracted $1.2 billion in investments from various organizations into the state’s digital economy within five years.
These investments focus on building data centers, hyper-scale data centers, landing submarine cables, and creating a network of users and providers.
Maida commended Sanwo-Olu’s administration for its developmental strides in telecommunications, technology, and the digital economy.
He emphasized the need for collaboration to protect digital infrastructure, address Right of Way issues, and ensure adequate notifications during road construction and rehabilitation.
The partnership is timely, as Lagos State aims to become a leading tech hub in Africa. The state has already made significant progress, attracting significant investments and establishing itself as a forefront of Africa’s digital transformation.
